The photography found in the black and white gallery was mainly produced in response to the separate elements that make up the Suffolk landscape. Having initial influences of Ansel Adams and Dieter Appelt with their high contrasting imagery, I was pulled away from drawing and towards camera work. Personally, I believe black and white photography is quite similar to drawing because in both, your aim is to create depth and mood through the use of tone.

Having normally spent weeks or longer on a single drawing, in the right conditions I can now create a photograph in the space of a single day. Yet within that day, I can see the subtle drifts of light dance over a dark pool, feel a connection with the scene, and then attempt to capture it. It’s an exciting process and I hope you enjoy the gallery.
